What does “Spam” do in Comment Moderation?

Hi,

I’ve tried searching the documentation and the forum, but I can’t find a definition of the options in the Bulk Action in the Comment Moderation screen.

I can figure out what Approve, Delete, and Defer mean. But, does anyone know what happens if you mark the post Spam? Is it deleted? Is the user who placed the comment banned somehow?

I am getting 3-4 spam comments a day. But, before I mark them as Spam, I’d like to know what that does!
