What do these referrers mean? (8 posts)

    Hi guys,

I have a question regarding referrers I see in Statpress. For example:

    October 8, 2012 15:19:14 http://www.livingnow.com.au
    October 8, 2012 13:28:00 http://longurl.org
    October 8, 2012 13:07:53 http://www.Mk-refurbishment.co.uk

Now some of these I know are real referrals but what about the likes of Living Now in Australia showing as a referrer straight to my homepage?

I see a lot of these and trying to get my head round what is going on as there is nothing on most of these sites that actually refer back to me?

    Any help at all?

That only means what site they were on before coming to your site. They might be linking to you somewhere on one of their pages, or they just typed in your URL manually when they were looking at that other website first before you.

Well none of the dodgy sites have links to me, and just seems unlikely someone would be on a site selling pills, and then type in my site URL?

This is a very common type of spam - referrer spam. Now that you have posted their links here, the spammers must be even happier :)

Ok... referrer spam? Do please feel free to explain (in non-sarcastic terms) what that means and how it occurs.
