I am a bit concerned about a theme I bought from Themeforest. Whenever the developer chooses not to update the theme anymore, what is one to do? Do you hire a web development company to modify your theme or just not update WordPress anymore?

The theme I choose is a bit complicated and it would be impossible to simply delete the current theme I have and activate a new one and expect everything to transfer over without lots of errors. This isn't something I think I have to worry about now as the theme is newer but its still something I want to know how to correct in the future.

I would be a bit concerned as well if I paid for a theme. I'd suggest at that point you find a web developer who is familiar with WP and can help you manage/maintain your theme or another alternative is to purchase another theme.

I hope you don't have to worry about it for a while.

You can always hire someone to do this work for you: http://jobs.wordpress.net

Alternatively, there are thousands of free themes available here: http://wordpress.org/themes/ , developed and supported by WordPress.org (the community).

Thanks for the help everyone. I will probably have to hire a web developer as the problem with this theme is that it is more advanced than just "add new post" and "add new page". There are other 'subsections' such as a trailer section, an image section, a review section, and then the standard blog section. Here is the site for those interested.

As you can see, transferring to a free theme or even a new paid one probably wouldn't work. If anyone knows of any good WordPress web development companies please let me know of them because I would love to see how much it would cost.
