What are my FTP credentials on a local install? (5 posts)

I have installed WordPress on my local computer running Ubuntu 11.10.

I can go to 127.0.0.1/wordpress and see my site. I can also add posts, pages, etc.

The problem comes when I am trynig to install a new theme. It asks for FTP credentials.

I have tried hostname - localhost, ftp username - admin, ftp password - mypassword but no luck.

How do I get this resolved?

    Thanks for your help.

there must some setup in Ubantu that is asking for ftp.

You do not need ftp for local install all you need to do add file in root from your computer.

If you installed XAMPP, you *may* be able to use:

    host: localhost
    user: nobody
    password: xampp

Glad its working for you aawas - I took a guess that people using XAMPP might come across this topic, but unless deshmukh is using XAMPP unfortunately my answer would not be much help to him.
