Weird Sending Referrers problem (15 posts)

Sorry, you need to enable sending referrers, for this feature to work.

I have done a lot of searching and reading in regards to this message and it would seem that you need to make adjustments to your browser, delete cookies and pray to make it work.

I have just shifted servers and I do not receive this message until I try and do things with my plugins - cannot activate/deactivate etc.

    So,
    1. browser is ok - no need to change settings in there
    2. cookies deleted

Still not working so any ideas from anyone who may have experienced the same?

Here's some research from the WordPress side of things:

    Thanks Kafkaesqui.

I have already read through all of those procedures and made the necessary changes.

    Still no go.

Check your siteurl and home values. See "change 'site_url' and 'home' values" and "Moving to another domain" here: http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/

    Thanks macmanx.

I have checked those as well but still no change.

It seems I cannot go to any page but the front page either.

Hm... Have you tried disabling plugins?

I take it your DB problems were solved?

Yes thanks, DB problems seem to be fixed although it is running very slowly.

    Disabling plugins? From where?

I cannot deactivate or activate from the plugins page. I also tried deleting the whole lot and reloading but that was not successful.

hm.... Well, if you don't mind trying this again, let's go for it. First off, delete your MySQL database, I mean totally trash it. There are a few MySQL servers (I think 2) running very slowly due to asshats running game servers on shared hosting plans. Creating a new MySQl DB should send you out to a new MySQL server (it appears to be random). Now, follow the steps here for bringing everything over: http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/move/

If I had to guess, the sending referrers could be due to the speed of your impacted DB. And, even though I'm not affiliated with DH, I do feel the need to apologize for that. Trust me, once you get situated, you'll love DH.

An interesting FYI, gravatar.com used to run off of a DH shared hosting package, now they run off of a DH dedicated server. So, DH can't be that bad, now can they. ^_-

Ok, I will give it all a try later today macmanx. I have to go out for a bit.

And you do not need to apologise for Dreamhost. I picked them based on a bit of advice and my own judgement.

Funnily enough, my Teacher Education site http://educ.os42.com and The WP Reference Centre http://te.os42.com - located in the same database for now - are not having these issues.

I daresay it is something minor but it has rendered Organic Shadows useless at the moment.

    Thanks for your help.

I'll do what I can (especially when it involves a host that I recommend). Good luck!

Well, I tried reinstalling my whole database and also upgraded to Strayhorn from a nightly in the process.

No change, so I commented out the relevant part in adminfunctions.php

However, I cannot go to anything on the frontend of the site apart from the index page.

Everything else takes me to a 404.

I may have lost my data in the transfer - now that hurts!

Just for anyone's interest down the track:

I commented it out and that solved the issue although I would like to know how to fix it without having to do that.

Posts not showing also resolved - needed to manually load .htaccess for permalinks to work.

And may I say a huge thanks to Podz yet again for being an absolutely brilliant person in how he helps others/me.

I tell you... people will look back in history and wish they had lived in the world when Saint Podz was alive. We are truly very fortunate :)

I'm glad you got it up and running. Is your new database faster than before?

    Thanks macmanx.

No, to be honest, it seems to be dragging it's feet a bit, but perhaps it will improve.

I will have to sort out a few things before I can run a few tests to make a better judgement.
