• I made automatic update from 3.5.1 to 3.5.2 and now the website and admin panel both are down.

Error message: “Connection timed out. Browser could not connect to http://www.mynolly.com”

Foolishly enough I didn’t make any backup before updating, so I guess I pretty stuck right now.

Is there any salvation for my stupidity? What can you recommend?

  • It could be a theme or plugin conflict. Best thing to try would be to rename your plugin folder something like plugins-temp and do the same with your active theme folder. That will force WordPress to revert to the default theme and deactivate all plugins.

If that works, you can rename the folders back to what they were and start reactivating your theme and plugins one-by-one until you see which one caused the problem.

Thank you, Shaun. I renamed plugin and theme folder but the website still won’t appear.

Ugh. That’s a drag. Not sure what could have caused the problem, but I would recommend reading this: http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress

    …and maybe this: http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended

…or getting in touch with your web host to see if they can help you sort it out.

The good news is, your posts and other data are probably still in tact. You probably just need someone who is familiar with MySQL or phpMyAdmin to help you recover them.

Mee too. I am pretty sure the update caused the problem – don’t you think? Any update that locks up a site, in my opinion, is a bad update – and that’s what I have right now. I am getting the dreaded “Database Update Required

WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update your database to the newest version.

The update process may take a little while, so please be patient.”

Already flushed my cookies and cache. No go. It’s enough to make me sing, “I don’t like Mondays …”

@texasflycaster – please start your own thread – it does not work well to have more than one person per thread.

It seams that the bug fixed by itself. Today I tried to open the website and everything was just fine – successful update to 3.5.2 and all working. I haven’t done anything really, it just happened. Now I made my backup in case the problem reappears.

Don’t know what was the problem really, maybe the background updating takes more time than it says, I don’t know.

So, this thread could be marked as RESOLVED, but who knows what actually resolved it?

For others who experience the same issue I would recommend to wait 24 hours before posting their threads as the update might need more time than expected.

Are you using a caching plugin like W3 Total Cache or a service like CloudFlare?

That might explain the delay after the upgrade…maybe the cached page data wasn’t jiving with the database? It’s a theory, anyway.

I’m using few plugins but none of those you mention.
