I am a novice at this so your patience is appreciated!

A few months ago I successfully created a website using wordpress that I am hosting on our server. AFter building the website I switched over and everything was working fine. On Monday I tried to access the site (papss.org) and after loading VERY SLOWLY received the following message:

I also cannot login to the wordpress dashboard. I was able to go into myphpadmin through cpanel and see that my email address and username are listed correctly, but the wordpress login says that the email is not registered.

I have been having an email dialogue with our tech support but so far nothing very useful to resolve. I do know that there was an update that was available for wordpress about a month ago, and for some reason when I tried to install it I could not. Sorry I cannot be more descriptive but I don't remember why it would not update.

The tech support folks think it is a configuration problem but that it all they have offered to this point.

If I can get into the dashboard I can probably find out exactly what version I am running and why it would not update.

    Thank you in advance!

sorry, I got sidetracked! the message on the home page is:

Apologies, but the page you requested could not be found. Perhaps searching will help.

As noted above, and a separate but perhaps related issue is that the wordpress dashboard login is not recognizing my email or login credentials.

That sounds like the default 404 message in either Twenty Ten or Twenty Eleven.

I do know that there was an update that was available for wordpress about a month ago, and for some reason when I tried to install it I could not.

Why? What happened? Do you have a database backup from before this time?

Sorry, but I really do not remember why. Prior updates installed with no problem but the last time it would not and I quite honestly do not know what the message was regarding the failure to update. If I could login to the dashboard I could answer these questions!

I have our server tech support folks also looking into the issue, I will post any updates.

    Try:
    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme's folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    - re-uploading all files & folders - except the wp-content folder - from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Then review:

You can rename your theme's folder via cPanel's File Manager, yes.

    esmi,

thanks for all your suggestions. Our webspace server admins/IT folks corrected the problem before I really tried anything else, and when I asked what the problem was they said they could not find any notes! I did have to ask them to update to PHP 5.0 in order to update to the latest WordPress version, but I was also able to log back into the dashboard BEFORE the upgrade so I don't really understand what happened.

    Thanks anyway!
