Website and Admin panel do not display due to Parse Error (2 posts)

I cannot log into either the actual website or my admin panel due to an error message reading:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /home/chefdari/public_html/wp-includes/default-filters.php on line 231

This seems to have happened spontaneously. I hadn't posted or added widgets for several days and it worked fine afterwards.

What do I need to do to fix this? I'm new to programming commands and totally lost!

First thing I would do is reupload the wp-includes folder from a fresh copy of wordpress, by ftp or a file manager if your host offers one.

After that, I would deactivate all plugins (using ftp since you have no access, just rename the plugins folder temporarily)

Then you can try switching to the default theme (again by ftp, by renaming your theme, which forces WP to the default theme)

Those are pretty generic things to try out for most problems
