    Coraline by Automattic theme

An object - it may be a widget - has appeared on each page on my site. It is superimposed over the featured image near the top on each page. It looks like a widget designed to scroll side-to-side. It seems to have appeared "out of nowhere." I am not aware of any action I've taken that can account for it's presence. I do not see any editing function that will remove it.

I do not know the specific technical language to use to identify this issue more precisely than I have. Your input is requested.

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Thanks for your response.

I'm working on your suggestions and will post results when I have results later today.

I completed deactivation and reactivation of the plugins. This procedure did not remove the object.

I previewed other themes from the Live Preview feature on the Appearance tab. The object disappeared when one of the other themes was previewed (didn't happen on every preview, though).
Based on what I saw, the object seems to occur in the header section, not in the featured image.

I do not know how to edit the contents of the header, or where to find the tool to do so.

Is the step-by-step assistance I need available through this forum?

Definitely hacked. It is an I-frame from the Czech Republic.

Is there a published step-by-step to deal with the i-frame hack? I'm operating from a very unsophisticated know how level.

No - every hack is different. You need to follow the links I posted above. They contain instructions on how to completely clean your site.

Progress - All passwords changed. And - I've found the offending code:
It appears in this text string:

[Please do not post hacked code here]

I want to remove it from the Coraline header - but this theme does not have access to the header code from the WordPress gui.

How and/or where do I access the code for the header?

You will likely need to access and check all of your theme files via FTP - http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients

And - I've found the offending code:

The code is very rarely in one spot and most hacks leave the door open so thay can recreate themselves. Make sure you go thru all the docs esmi listed.
