• Good day,

I would like to request some feedback on my first WordPress website. We are a Real Estate Company and I created a website without any knowledge of a code, using Palmixio theme and few plugins, such as Great Real Estate.
I seem to have a few issues on the page and therefore would appreciate your feedback.

    amber-inc.co.uk

Can anyone suggest a better plugin for Real estate than the Great Real Estate?

    I appreciate your help!

  • @ask.marat, that is a very good blog, i like the logo very much, a perfect logo for a real estate blog 🙂

    here’s a few things i noticed,

    1) don’t use underscore for urls, just use this “-“

    2) On the featured images you used the urls link amber-inc.co.uk/?page_id=62, even though it re-directs to the friendly links, but still why use the urls like that,

    3) even though i like your logo, but it still needs some work, at the end of the logo(right side), there is a white space, perhaps you can fill something there…

    4) blogs are usually updated, so perhaps adding more unique content will do good,

also, what exactly the “Great Real Estate” plugin does. perhaps we can suggest you some alternative to it if you explain it a bit more,

Thank you so much for your response and feedback, you got some very valuable points.
I was looking at the header for a long while, and its just a matter of doing it for me as I am doing that in Photoshop myself.
Problem with the header is that I save it around a 100kb in size not to sacrifice the quality of image, but my site loads quite slowly already….
    Have to rethink that.

URL’s is a good point – makes them a lot friendlier, and with featured listings boxes as well, since I linked the images when I was using the still “unfriendly URL’s”.

The Great Real Estate plugin is an alright one, but has its limitations.
It allows you to add RE(Real Estate) listings to the website by setting RE “homepage”, where it then creates a list of properties in separate boxes, such as displayed here.

    > When you click on the property listing to view details, it is neatly arranged into categories, such as “Map” – google map, “Details”, Gallery, etc. – all of that is great, but not, in my opinion what a user would want to see. I think its better to display all of this info in one place as IMHO some people simply would not figure out that they have to click on those green tabs. Oh, and green tabs don’t really blend in. AND, I recently discovered that some IE users have problems navigating those tabs, don’t know if its the version or flash player or something else, but it simply gets you to the bottom of the existing page and does not display anything different (stays on the first tab).

    >Punching in properties is quite straight forward, but I think could be simplified, as it uses 5 different plugins and before you’re actually ready to put property info and publish, it takes half an hour uploading different galleries, download files and navigation through WP itself.

    >Design: Some text that the plugin is using is really annoying…. I know, If I would know a little about CSS, I’d probably change those little bits.. I do have to spend some time on it. But still, text size it uses in property “Brief Blurb” is extremely small and unreadable.

    >”Featured” widget doesn’t really work properly, since it uses the widget “header” image as its whole background, hence the text is not visible.

P.S. I tried another plugin called “FireStorm Real Estate”, it comes with its own separate theme and a number of other plugins to support it, developed by same author. Whenever I activated the plugin, there was a black flash element covering top half of my page, as well as other element on the bottom, which appeared to be a flash image gallery.
I don’t understand how to fix it, I think I’ve done everything according to the install guide.

P.S.2 I would love to have some help on this – I really want to embed a flash element on my webpage, which would allow people to brows properties with short descriptions and prices, such as here

If thats your first wordpress site then you’ve done very well indeed.

I agree with weddingcakes – wordpress (and google) just loves fresh content – even if its short and sweet but regular.

I agree with your points about navigation and data display with Greeat Real Estate, I ditched it as well for exactly the same reason – the green tags! Also I didnt like the info in the box – i think the description should be the default tab and maps ect secondary iof the tabs are necessary.

I’m trying out firestorm real estate on my new property blog but when I install it the extra pages haven’t been created – I’ve emailed for support so lets see what they say.
