I’m a student who’s to manage the content on a site.

I was given the website url and admin credentials however I noticed that when attempting to preview changes to the site, chrome was warning me of a redirect to a completely different page. In order to fix this I thought that changing the site URL and Worpress URL from example.ca/wp to example.ca this would fix the problem. Evidently I just made things worse as now I get a 404 on both the front and back end of the website.

To make matters worse, I don’t have access to any wordpress config files as it was someone else that installed wordpress and got the site going. As you can probably tell I’m very new to this and was wondering if any of this situation can be salvaged?

    Regards.

I’m not sure what that was, but after you get the site fixed copy the exact text from the warning—or post a screenshot of it—to see if someone can help once they can see more details about what might be going on there.

You indeed need access to the files directly or to the database in order to fix “WordPress address (URL)” and “Site address (URL)” settings that have been changed by mistake. See http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL for lots more detailed info and help.
