   I wish to use WordPress to make a simple but multi-page website with no blogs or comments, in other words just to display information (family history).
   Can someone please tell me of a suitable theme to download?

   Almost any theme from the page linked below can be set up that way -- so you'll have to decide on the look you want:

   I like Pagelines.
   But each of my 3 pages has a comment box for replies. I want to do away with these.

   In any theme. Go to your dashboard -> all pages.
   Click "Quick Edit" on the desired pages then uncheck "Allow Comments". Update
