Just wondering which is better, web hosting WordPress in the UK or in the USA? When I look at [ link redacted ] then I think that the UK is more expensive in general. But maybe support is better in the USA? Am doubting about where my web host should be located. Am a resident of Germany but my WordPress blogs target are the USA and the UK. Thanks for helping me out!

You will get varying opinions about hosting here (which is not permitted in these forums anyway). Once you have your short list of hosting companies and plans that meet you requirements, I would choose what fits into your budget. Most are very comparable anyway in terms of cost and service. Geography isn't really much of a factor based on my experience.

The USA theoretically allows for more freedom of expression; but should US authorities want to take down your site for any reason at all, wherever it is hosted in the world, they will go in mob-handed.

However other authorities are less likely to bully USAian sites, so it's best to go with American hosting. If you are not American.

Personally, I would always host in a different jurisdiction to where I reside, mostly to mess with them; but also because overtly national sites ( especially as those with country codes such as .co.uk ) look so parochial and amateur ).

Domain name can be independent of web host location.

I'm quite aware of that ( and think that everyone should just go with .com rather than the plethora of useless tlds offered ); yet my main point was concealment of nationality to obstruct investigation. Perhaps more important than ever in Middle Eastern countries where authorities take a keen interest in internet users' pastimes.

And if the USA can reach out and touch the wholly independent government of Ukraine to take down Demonoid, or prosecute Megaupload on the grounds that some servers were in America --- or that some American telephone wires were used --- then I doubt that an American hosting dubious torrents should do so in his own country.
