hi,
We are trying to update from 1.5.2 to 2.8.6. We have 100's of incoming links and don't want to lose those. Any suggestions for the best way to make this painless?
We tried the Automatic Update and got this message:
Call to undefined function: current_user_can()
Any suggestions? Or best way to do this upgrade?

It's generally agreed that it's best to do an incremental upgrade from old versions in the sequence 1.5 to 2.0.5 to 2.1, 2.1 to 2.3, 2.3 to 2.5, 2.5 to 2.8.6.
In theory you should be able to upgrade straight to 2.8.5 but people report more success with the incremental approach to ensure the database gets upgraded properly. Backup your database before you start, and every few steps....
