Was my WordPress hacked? (6 posts)

Wondering if my wordpress has been hacked. When I sign into my Dashboard, the font sizes are huge and things just don't look right. Then in my email this morning I had a bunch of strange emails, some not even in english saying that I had comments that needed approving for my wordpress sites. However, all these sites are just testing sites that I'm using to learn WordPress so how these people even found them is beyond me.

What should I do? I'm really concerned. Should I call my hosting company?

    Thanks

Use Securi to check for hacking -
    http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/

Though that's not 100% - no scanner is.

It sounds like those may be just spam comments - are you allowing anyone to comment? You can turn that off under General > Discussion Settings check the box that users must be registered to comment.

Also, use Akismet plugin which comes with WP - you need to activate it by setting up an account on WordPress.COM - http://akismet.com/

Thanks for the info but now some of the fonts in my Dashboard are huge. How do I get the font sizes to reset now?

Also, didn't like that you have to PAY to use akismet. Is there something else I can use that is free?

  5. Akismet is a service and if it's for a commercial site then then you have to pay. But for a personal site? The scale is $0-$120/year.

I'm pretty sure that the $0 means paying is optional. ;)

Akismet is free for personal websites. It's the best anti-spam plugin, but there are others - you can find them on the plugins page. As to the font-sizes, no way to know without at least seeing the site you are having this problem on.
