• I installed this plugin, and it immediately deleted all of the content for ALL of the book pages on my website. These represented literally thousands of hours of work–all of the reviews, images, playlists, and more for all of my books going back to 2001. I am extremely frustrated and saddened, as my website is where I keep all of the newspaper and magazine reviews, hundreds of them, that I’ve received over the years. Even the recovery files for all of my book pages were deleted. Even after uninstalling the plugin, none of the content could be recovered. Do NOT download MyBooks for Authors if you value the content you have already created.

    Mich,

I’m sorry to hear about you losing your data, however I don’t see how my plugin would’ve caused this problem. I’ve tested this with both adding a page called books with subpages underneath, and adding a post type called books using the same structure as the post type that MyBooks creates, but neither of those cases resulted in data being removed.

I hope you were able to restore your posts from a backup. As I said in your support thread, MyBooks doesn’t modify the database to remove anything — it’s just a series of functions. Even removing the plugin doesn’t delete the posts associated with that post type, so I’d like to clarify that this plugin DOES NOT delete post data. If you respond to the support thread and provide some more detail, I will help you figure out what happened and do what I can to resolve it.

For anyone who reads this thread — MyBooks does not modify the database except upon deletion, removes the “MyBooks Settings” options, removes the functions (php code) associated with the plugin. This is not a dangerous plugin.

Making frequent backups is good practice in any self-hosted platform, and with any plugin, you should use caution when installing / activating. I use this plugin more than anyone else and it has not ever caused any data to be lost.
