   After playing around with the Beta, I resume: Version 2.0 is a great step forward for me.

   Maybe the most useful change is going from hierarchical user levels to roles, which provides a "real" user management.

   Good explanation of the roles concept here:

   But:

   Since Plugins might change Roles and Capabilities, just the 'standard' Roles and Capabilities are addressed in this article.

   Or as I read in Simple Thoughts today:

   Role replaces user level. I am assuming tons of plugins which check the user level before allowing specific action will fail.

   I agree. Unfortunately I'm just a wp user and does not have any programming skills, but I really would like to see some plugins like:

   - Defining your own roles not only the 'standard' ones
   - Permission management for specific categories based on roles

   And I'm sure, that we will have it.

   (Sorry for my poor English, I know, I know)

   Have you contacted any of the user level-based plugin developers? They may already have plans for updating their plugins.

    It's just a text file.

    Save the file and rename it to post_sharing.php

    I am a little sad that by missing an interface to easly assign capabilities to roles and users, WP 2.0 seems to be somehow "not ready for release".

    Does it make sense to develop such a plugin now when the trac database already has a ticket for enhancement and the implementation will come somewhat in the next weeks?

    Stinking server goes down too frequently. I've now set it to send me text messages when it goes down, so it hopefully won't stay down long when it does go. In any case...

    I've been using the role manager for a few days. Works great and is an awesome tool to tweak capabilities and roles.
    Very cool!

    Yeah, it works great, but it still has some major issues. I had users with multiple or no roles. :/

    You had users with multiple or no roles? As a result of using the plugin, or as a result of direct tinkering with the database? I can't imagine that it's the plugin, since the plugin doesn't alter the roles of users. Log your issues here - my visiting this forum is an accident of chance and not something I do regularly.
