I am preparing to open a WordPress site. I am going to use a very specific plug-in from WordPress.org.
I have read on this board that if I install from WordPress.com that I will not be able to use plug-ins from WordPress.org. TRUE?

If so...can someone tell me the procedure for this...Like

    1) install wordpress from ???
    2) install wordpress.org plug-in

    and bla bla bla?
I am looking at hosting at bluehost

    Best,

True. Their terms are a little more restrictive in order to provide a safe environment for the gigantic number of people who use their free blog services. You won't encounter those restrictions if you are self hosted.

    1) install wordpress from ???
    2) install wordpress.org plug-in

Here is a great place to get started. This should answer most of the questions you will run into before installing WordPress, and it will also lead you to information about installing themes, plugins, updating, how to make backups, using ftp clients, etc...

[edit] Bluehost hosts a fantastically large number of WordPress installations. I've heard many good things about them. I am neither endorsing them or providing critique, however; as with any hosting service you might choose to consider, read their terms of services and user agreement documentation completely and be sure that their policies fit in with the plans that you have for your site content and use.

I am looking at hosting at bluehost

I began my entire website experience at BlueHost about four months ago, and my experience there has been good. The BlueHost Support Reps are friendly and helpful -- Chat works great at the BlueHost Dashboard -- and they were very patient with me as I stumbled around a bit at first. I do not know how much difference this actually makes, but I set things up with a dedicated IP. My BlueHost servers were down twice a couple of months ago, but only for short periods of time...and I have had no server problem since then. Akismet works well for SPAM filtering, and it is easy to set up.

If you want to begin with a fresh installation, SimpleScripts will do that for you and send you the link and password you will need for first-access. But if you want to move an existing site from wordpress.com to anywhere else, someone else will have to tell you how that can be done.

However you might decide to do things: Enjoy!

There is great help and support here in these forums.
