Please forgive me I am new to WordPress. I am helping with a site after the original site was built with a template. For me to have a better understanding I was wondering is it possible to build a new version of the original site on wordpress without hurting what is currently live.
Want to build work with new template while orginal is used (2 posts)

Yes - it's possible. Installing WordPress in a sub-folder of your site will allow you to work on the new site without disturbing the existing site. Then, when you ready to launch the new site, remove the old one and see Giving WordPress Its Own Directory.
