Question #1: Will installing this mess up my other content (also in php)? If not, can I just add a "go to my blog" link?

You will have to give some more info if you want some help.
"This blog" in your title is not very informative.
I assume your site (in php) is in the root. Where do you want to install WP? Also in the root? - that would probably kill your site.
Ever thought about installing it in a subfolder like "blog"?
