Hello. I have a WordPress site that I am ready to move to my 'real' URL. I developed it here: http://www.beaconacademy.org/dev-wpbeacon/wordpress/wp-admin

The current 'real' website is here: http://www.beaconacademy.org (same URL and I can see the original site when I ftp there).

So, is it possible that all I have to do this:
Change Site Address URL from (Settings - General)
    http://www.beaconacademy.org/dev-wpbeacon/wordpress
    to
    http://www.beaconacademy.org

    AND leave the wordpress address:
    http://www.beaconacademy.org/dev-wpbeacon/wordpress

I have read so many articles that my head is spinning. They make me scared about messing something up. But, it seems like this is all I need to do. Comments welcomed and encouraged!!!

    Linda

Being not expert I can only say that that worked for me.

However... you need to update the .htaccess file after doing that and after selecting what type of permalinks you want ( General/Settings/Permalinks ). [ Codex --- Changing Url )

Before the # BEGIN WordPress part, at the very top of the .htaccess file, you could paste something like this:

    Options +FollowSymLinks +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch
    RedirectMatch 301 ^/http://www.beaconacademy.org/dev-wpbeacon/wordpress/([^/]+)/$ http://www.beaconacademy.org/http://www.beaconacademy.org/dev-wpbeacon/wordpress/$1

That example, using Mr. Yoast's tool here, is for %postname% permalinks, to use other sorts of permalinks, go to that link.
