• So I am in awe of some of the work I have seen on this forum today and thought I’d do the thing properly and ask for comments on mine. I’ve been working with wordpress for four or five months now and been modifying kubrick alot, but I found Hemingway Reloaded (and also the Blossom one too) and loved it (them) so much I did this:

    http://www.arbu.co.uk

Haven’t yet cracked getting the child pages of wp_list_pages formatted properly (fourth column in sidebar) and so have gone with bludged hand-coded for now and am looking for ideas on how to do this without getting out of the themes directory.

    Wadja fink?

  • Well, that’s different! I like it, might be hard to get used to after years of “normal” layouts, but about the only thing I don’t like is the cloud graphic….

    Otherwise, very neat.

I actually quite like the cloud graphic, but small black text for the headings “about”, “recently”, “categories” and “information” is making my eyes bleed trying to read it! How about increasing the font size for those headings and making them white?

And when you hover over the links in those same sections, I don’t like the way they turn black as again, it’s terribly difficult to see properly. Not nearly enough contrast.

Further, the shade of blue used for the “comments rss” and “entries rss” links clash a bit with the other blues in your site. Perhaps a complementing colour would be better? And on that subject, the background colour of the comment form also clashes, in my opinion.

One more thing: can you make your site header, ie “arbu.co.uk” into a link to get back to your home page? That’s kind of conventional and I think users would expect it. I got a bit lost in the navigation and was surprised to see the header didn’t take me back to the beginning.

It’s great apart from these wee points though!

Awesome – very different. Good job!

Yes, those category headers need to be a contrasting color, and lower. Otherwise a great, fresh design.

Thanks very much guys – appreciate the comments which have identified the area where things are not quite tight enough and which I was too close to see – sorry about the eye-bleed Croila.
