[resolved] W3TC deleting .htaccess files (11 posts)

Working with my host to find out why my permalinks keep disappearing it turns out that altering the W3TC configuration is the culprit and results in one or more of the .htaccess files being deleted and rewritten with only the W3TC stuff in them, no WordPress permalink rewriting and everything else you might have added is gone. Now it could be a configuration issue on the server, maybe an ownership or permissions kinda thing, but this behaviour is odd. I have never see it before and really should not happen of course. Any ideas what to check to see if its causing it? I am running the latest development version of W3TC now (WP 3.2.1. + W3TC 0.9.2.5b), but that does it too.

    Terence.

  2. Yes, altering your W3TC settings causes changes in your .htaccess.

I would set permissions on the MAIN .htaccess to 644 and make the changes manually to prevent that.

    Hi Terence,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the plugin. I did some research and it looks like this might have been an issue in an earlier version but should be resolved now. I also noticed you're using the development version and not the version available here:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/w3-total-cache/faq/

I would recommend contacting the developer with a bug report on what you're seeing or switching to the other version.

I do see the developer is active here in the forum as well and he may pop-in to give further advice.

    Hope this helps!

OK, I'll take that advice but this is strange since its completely new behaviour. W3TC has always been well behave and simply updated the .htaccess file with any new stuff it needed, not deleted them and start again, as it does now.

@ChristNi Thanks, but I already sent 2 bug reports to Frederick both for the release version and the development version which does the same thing. I have the feeling he is out of town since he is normally very good at getting back to me.

  6. Well it's possible you have found a bug in the dev version :)

@SwansonPhotos, instead of commentary, can you please ask a specific question?
