After upgrading to the current nightly build, the “Visual” tab on the editing screen for posts and pages has become disabled. The tab is visible but clicking it does nothing. It no longer switches into visual editing mode. Only the “Upload/insert” line of editor icons remains visible above the edit window. The rest of the visual editor icons are missing. I checked my profile and I do NOT have the “disable visual editor when writing” box checked. (Checking that box makes the “Visual” tab go away.) I tried disabling two plugins that affect the editor (footnotes and search-and-replace) but that had no effect. Could this be a bug?

Not only is the visual editor missing, the UPDATE button no longer saves the file. The PREVIEW button shows the updated edits but UPDATE doesn’t commit them to disk. Result: can’t edit online material even using HTML edit window.

Further result: switching to a different editor plugin, for example, FCK, doesn’t help. The editor works fine on the material in the edit window but the edits aren’t saved to the server.

This turns out to be a conflict with the Picasa Express plugin Ver 1.5.2. Deactivating this plugin restores normal WP editor functioning. I have notified the PE plugin author.
