Visual editor not working after 3.8.1 update

The 3.8.1 update installed automatically on one of my sites a couple of days ago. Since then the “Visual” tab of both the posts and pages editor is broken. In Chrome the visual editor just acts like the text editor, and in Safari the whole text window disappears if I click “Visual”.

Before I get the standard first reply, yes I deactivated all plugins, reset my plugin folder, switched to a new theme to rule out theme-specific problems AND switched to a new browser. The problem was still present after all of this.

@shannon86 Please delete the wp-includes and wp-admin folders. DO NOT touch the wp-contents folder. Download a fresh copy of WP and extract the includes and admin folders. Using ftp or the file manager software your host provides, up load these folders to your site.

I’ve updated another thread, but basically disabling and re-enabling the Yoast SEO plugin fixed it for me. Other people had to go to their user profiles and make sure that the visual editor was enabled. I don’t understand what the problem was, but it’s gone now and I cannot reproduce it again.

Hi!

I had the same issue… finally found that the cause was a conflict with Contact Form 7. Disabling it made the problem disappear.

I also followed kmessinger’s advice on downloading a fresh copy of WP and replacing wp-admin and wp-includes folders… then tried again re-enabling Contact Form 7 and the problem re-appeared so I’ve definitely rejected this plugin.

I had this issue. The Visual Editor started working again after disabling NextGen Gallery plugin.
