   Visual Editor is not working. All the editing icons are gone and I can enter any text in the text window. I re-installed the latest upgrade, and cleared the browser cache. I'm new to this so maybe I'm missing something obvious?

   There could be different reasons why this could have happened. In the meantime,

   - Deactivate all plugins, clear cookies/cache. Check also your user profile if you disabled Visual Editor. If you regain Visual Editor, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

   - Switch theme to WordPress default theme to rule out any theme-related problems. Clear cache/cookies. See if you get your Visual Editor back.

   For other people who encounter this in the future:

   When switching themes cured the problem, I found the cause: a missing wp_footer(); call just before </body></html> in one of my theme files.
