Virtual editor
-
I recently updated to version 3.0.1 and after a couple days I no longer had virtual editor to work with. Not only that, but the font colour switched to white. I have since downgraded to 2.9.2–which always worked fine by the way, but I am now experiencing same problems with that version as I was having in 3.0.1
Could somebody tell me what is going on, if my problem has been experienced by others, and what I have to to fix problem.
Assistance is greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

I’ve run into this before, I just cant quite remember what the exact problem was. As I recall, it’s a javascript issue, and has something to do with cookies and saved settings. Try clearing your cookies and your browser cache.
Thanks Peter. Cleared cache and cookies. Still same issue. Will look into Javascript.
Does this happen in any other browsers and on any other computers?
Try logging in with a different user – maybe it’s something awry in the user settings? I’d be interested to hear if it happens in a different browser as well.
Problem with IE and Firefox. Also am unable to automatically update to 3.0.1, which is a first. Updated without problems before, then visual editor disappeared. Contact my webhost support and they reverted back to 2.9.2 version which before I updated to 3.0.1 version, was working fine.
Webhoster has technical support on it, but I’m not holding my breathe.
The problem is in all of my websites; from main domain to four subdomains and occurred a couple days, maybe a few more after I updated to 3.0.1
I should tell you that I haven’t tweeked my themes for quite sometime now–except adding a few plug-ins, removing some. I have no idea how or why this happened. Could it have something to do with Text Link Ads plug-ins which I installed a couple of weeks ago?
Everything was fine 48 hours ago and without any warning, font colour in edit post mode is white and like I said, visual editor (kitchen sink) gone.
Tried another computer; same problem.
Oh and I have the only user profile. Nobody else has access to dashboards on any of my domains.
Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.
If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Default theme (WordPress 1.5 – 2.9.2) or the Twenty Ten theme (WordPress 3.0 and higher) to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can sometimes interfere with the admin panel).
Tried switching to default theme. No go. Will deactivate plug ins and see waht haooens. Appreciate the help mate.
didn’t work. Noticed another problem. Used to be able to be to tick ‘plug in’ and all boxes would be ticked. Now I have to do it manually, tick each box one at a time. Also, when I click reply under comment, nothing happens. No reply box appears.

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of the
/wp-admin/
and/wp-includes/
directories with fresh copies from the download.I can’t even do that mate. I tried creating a subdomain so that I could install WordPress, but was stopped in my tracks. Install via Fantastico wouldn’t proceed.
The other thing is–I have a lot of data, most of which I want to retain due to, paid ads in the content.
You can’t download the files, or you can’t access your server via FTP or SFTP to replace the files?
Until now I never had any problems. These issues arose a few days after upgrading to latest version. Interesting thing; I tried to automatically upgrade to latest version again, and I am now asked to provide Hostname, username, password and connection type, which never use to happen before.
What do they mean ‘host name’?
