[resolved] View Word Count while writing post in admin panel, Old thread seems outdated... (6 posts)

What I would like to do is be able to view my word count in the wordpress admin panel as I am writing a post.

This issue was addressed and apparently resolved about a year ago in this post: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/43544?replies=5

BUT, some of that information seems to be outdated, since I can no longer find the code they are referring to in the edit-form-advanced page. They say to paste the code for the word count feature after the following code in the edit form advanced page:

    <?php the_quicktags(); ?>

    <div><textarea <?php if...

But that code isn't in the new 2.2 edit-form-advanced page.

Anyone know where to post the word count feature code in the new version of WP, and/or if there has been a plugin or another way to do this since then.

    Thanks in advance!

Anybody? I would really love to get this feature working. If you have any suggestions at all, please let me know.

You should still be able to use the old code I suggested if you want to:
    http://pastebin.ca/121545

I'm not running 2.2. Does it not use quicktags anymore? I think that 'edit-form-advanced.php' isn't where you want to put that code anymore. I'm looking at this code and not seeing where you'd put any of that:
    http://trac.wordpress.org/browser/branches/2.2/wp-admin/edit-form-advanced.php?rev=5412

I would experiment by putting the code in at about line 155 and see where it displays.

Then again, you could just use a plugin:

That email to me worked well and I posted here as soon as I could. Please don't bump.

Just an update for anyone else interested in this feature. The plugin didn't work for me for whatever reason. Maybe it's not compatible with the new version, or it may have conflicted with another plugin, etc.

But I followed Todd's advice and pasted the code from http://pastebin.ca/121545 right at line 155 in the edit-form-advanced.php file (which is in your wp-admin folder), and it works perfectly!

    Thanks again!

This isn't my normal thing, but I got a plugin together out of all this. I'm sure it will be improved, but here it is for anyone looking:

I'm looking for a "live" word count plug-in. Anyone?
