Have you double checked the Video Thumbnails settings? Is there a chance you can see the featured image on the post edit screen but not the front end?

I’m getting the same problem since I’ve upgraded to WP 3.4.1. Now none of my older posts with just videos in them have featured images, even after a re-scan? I’ve checked the settings and it’s all set to generate a featured image from a video thumbnail, but it seems be just broken?

Just doubled checked on 3.4.1 and I can seem to be able to recreate the problem. Can you give any more details of your setup? To be honest I’m not quite sure what could be happening but your hosting environment, other plugins running, theme, etc., could help me figure it out.

Hey Sutherland, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I’m not quite sure what my hosting environment is, I use site5 to host my site if that helps?

    I’m running these plug-ins:

    Additional image sizes
    Akismet
    Auto Post Thumbnail
    Categories to Tags Converter Importer
    Dave’s WordPress Live Search
    Disqus Comment System
    FancyBox for WordPress
    Feed Statistics
    Generate Post Thumbnails
    Google Analytics for WordPress
    Google XML Sitemaps
    Hide Categories
    Jetpack by WordPress.com
    jQuery lazy load plugin
    Kimili Flash Embed
    Open Graph Meta
    Post Type Switcher
    PRO Player
    PuSHPress
    Redirect
    Video Thumbnails

    Thanks for looking into this.

Same problem, finds the youtube thumb but doesn’t set it as featured. I have to do it manually. Any update on this?

Same problem here. I tried disabling all other thumbnail related plugins, but to no avail. The video thumbnail is there alright, but does not get set as the featured image 🙁 That is, on batch processing, actually. I haven’t tried (nor do I need) while creating a new post.

Good luck with that one and thanx in advance 🙂

I am experiencing the same problem. It had been working okay.

I had noticed awhile back that two images were showing up side by side in category archives, Then in the last 24 hours, I started to get the message:

Error retrieving a thumbnail from the URL http://img.youtube.com/vi/nvjl90jY278/0.jpg
Libcurl error 0: Failed to connect to 2607:f8b0:4007:801::1004: Network is unreachable. If opening that URL in your web browser shows an image, the problem may be related to your web server and might be something your server administrator can solve.

There were several other videos on the page, and I found that if I deleted the first video (url), updated the post, Reset Video Thumbnail (which now displayed the second video on the post), put the first url back, updated the page again, Reset Video Thumbnail again, it would then pick up the thumbnail, but not set it as the featured post.

So I decided to try out a few other plugins. None of them worked as well, or as easily as this one, so I reactivated this one but it was still not setting the thumbnails as featured images. I deleted all of the other plugins I had tried (in fact I disabled all of my other plugins), and optimized the db, but to no avail.

Used with Thumbnail For Excerpts, this plugin has been a nice addition to WordPress for quite a while. So sad…

I believe I am having the same problem. I am using Video Thumbnails version 1.8.2 and WordPress 3.4.2.

My theme has a number of special thumbnail sizes set using the add_image_size WordPress function.

Therefore every time I want to display a featured thumbnail, the code in the template looks like:

    the_post_thumbnail( 'portfolio-post-thumbnail-xl' );

On my web site, this is not actually pulling the Video Thumbnail for that post (even though when I go to edit the post, the correct video thumbnail is clearly associated with the post). Could the image sizes somehow be the culprit?

    Thank you for advice!
