VERY PLAIN TEXT THEME (9 posts)

    I use the plain text theme for my blog and I loooove it!! I find it pretty easy to edit in Editor, which I guess is sort of the point. HOWEVER, I hate that my sidebar only appears on the homepage and not when you click on individual posts... this disrupts the whole 'look' of my blog when you click on an individual post.

    Does anybody know any way to keep the side bar there all the time? This is my blog

    http://wineandbutter.com/

    And this is an individual post

    http://wineandbutter.com/hawmc-health-activist-choice-aka-write-about-whatever-you-want-day/

    Or also how to edit so that the post line width is shorter.. meaning that even if I cant keep the sidebar there all the time, my sentences don't stretch on way further than my photos, whenever my psts are clicked on. I feel it looks so messy!

    Any help soooooo gratefully received! :)

    edit style.css, and comment (or delete) a few sections (with body.single or body.page):

    show after the edits:

    line 25:

    body.home div#globalnav,body.archive div#globalnav,body.search div#globalnav,body.four04 div#globalnav,body div#globalnav ul li ul,div.access,/*body.single div.sidebar,body.page div.sidebar,*/span#theme-link span.additional-name,span#theme-link span.family-name{display:none;}

    line 30:

    /*body.single div#container,body.page div#container{margin:0 0 2em;}*/

    line 33:

    /*body.single div#content,body.page div#content{margin:3em 0 0;}*/

    You must have fixed this because the sidebar looks fine to me on http://wineandbutter.com/hawmc-health-activist-choice-aka-write-about-whatever-you-want-day/ in both firefox and ie7, 8 & 9

    Really?? Im so confused.

    I open it in Chrome and the sidebar appears on the homepage but on individual posts you can only see my pages as options along the top and the sidebar disappears...

    Does anyone have any idea how to fix this inr chrome (or, ideally, in all browsers) so that my sidebar is constant and not just for the homepage.

    THANK YOU!!! (and Happy Easter/ Passover!!!)

    Okay I swear it worked a while ago but it isn't now.

    When I looked at your single post page the wrapper only inclosed the header.

    When I looked at your home page the wrapper inclosed the whole site, like it is suppose to.

    I just looked at your code, single post page doesn't have a footer, a closing tag for the wrapper or body or html tag.

    It ends at
    </div><!-- #container -->

    You've messed something up but it shouldn't be to hard to fix. Hopefully you have the original or can download the original and you can compare the files.

    If you're going to play with your code, get and use firefoxes fire bug or chromes tools. With chrome go to the wrench on the right side > tools > develepors tools. Play with it, you see how it highlights different divs on your pages.

    Happy Easter/ Passover to you too.

    have you edited single.php in any way?

    the sidebar position in your site is different from the original theme.

    also, some styles in style.css seem to be wrong - your menu in single posts is vanished, the suggested to get removed section in line 25 is still there (,body.single div.sidebar,body.page div.sidebar); and also in a near identical line further down; this line is still there: body.single div#container,body.page div#container{margin:0 0 2em;}; and more.

    it might be the easiest to upload a new copy of the theme, and start by implementing the suggested css edits.

    or here is the full style.css that worked for me in an otherwise unedited 'veryplaintxt' theme: http://pastebin.com/sxkVBh4t

    Hello Patient Friends!

    Okay - Im so sorry - I did edit both style css and single post.php slightly last night. I thought I had made the changes you suggested without any effect so I starting playing around on my own... sorry!!

    Ive copied back the totally original style sheet though and also re-edited back the single php sheet (all I did was add in a line saying 'get sidebar', which I thought might help the sidebar to appear on single posts....)

    ANYHOW - In terms of the advice above I cant make it work for me but I guess I am doing something wrong ... :(.

    Do you mean delete lines 25, 30 & 33 (or the ones which most closely resemble the lines you have put there.. I think on my style they are actually lines 23 28 & 30 ) and put the ones you wrote in their place? Thats what I did! Or do I not delete anything and just add the lines you suggested? Or do I replace line 25 with what you suggested and then delete lines 30 & 33 altogther? I think lines 30 & 33 are identical to what you suggested and was wondering whether the slash line in front of them actually meant I should delete.

    I am (in case you haven't guessed) pretty 100% tech INEPT so any codes or shortcuts go totally over my head! THANK YOU!!!!!! xoxo

    at the moment, the <?php get_sidebar() ?> code before the <?php get_footer() ?> line in single.php seems to be missing totally.
    maybe get a new copy of your theme.

    once you have your template files back to normal, only edit style.css:

    find this line:
    body.home div#globalnav,body.archive div#globalnav,body.search div#globalnav,body.four04 div#globalnav,body div#globalnav ul li ul,div.access,body.single div.sidebar,body.page div.sidebar,span#theme-link span.additional-name,span#theme-link span.family-name{display:none;}
    remove it.
    add this line instead:
    body.home div#globalnav,body.archive div#globalnav,body.search div#globalnav,body.four04 div#globalnav,body div#globalnav ul li ul,div.access,span#theme-link span.additional-name,span#theme-link span.family-name{display:none;}

    then find this line, and remove it:
    body.single div#container,body.page div#container{margin:0 0 2em;}

    then find this line, and remove it:
    body.single div#content,body.page div#content{margin:3em 0 0;}

    after the changes to style.css, clear the browser cache - reload the web page (a few times) or press 'CTRL F5' (windows browsers) or whatever your browser needs; this should help to get to see any changes.
