• Hi, I’m newbie to wordpress and I’m working on developing a website for our company. I have installed the DynamiX theme from themeforest.net. My website is hosted on the godaddy server and I would like to control my website by versioning each of its state since I got into a crash last time. I’m not familiar about GitHub, SVN (say Tortoise SVN) or the wordpress plugins like Revision control. Also I have come across many forums where I found some WordPress plugins sometimes causes issues and affects the site. Please help me to find out a way..
    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi,

I do not think you need to go into such complicated procedures to backup your website.

You can always find free plugins that backup your website and create an archive. In that case, it would be better to simply backup the website before doing any change.

Having said that, there are no “crashes” in WordPress that until now weren’t solved, so I do not think you should hassle with all this. Most of the crashes can be simply fixed by disabling a plugin.

    still, backup is ALWAYS important

Many thanks John!! So now its enough just to take backup through the wp plugins. But can you help me finding a good plugin? Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks.

    Hi,

I don’t know of any offhand, but if you check the Plugins directory you can find quite a few, such as:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/backupwordpress/

There are also several online services that do automated backups for you and they do not cost much, which might be an easier solution as you will host your backups in a different location. E.g. the same WordPress company , Automattic have this product: http://vaultpress.com/

    Worth giving it a shot.

Yeah tats fine! Thanks! I ll go for:
backupwordpress since they seem to have a good tech support team and I can see the plugin to be the highest downloaded among majority of wordpress users for backups!!

    Sounds like a good idea.
