Verifying Ping (11 posts)

I have been using WordPress for around a month. I wanted to verify if my blogs were being pinged per the Writing Option in WordPress.

I decided first to see if I was listed in Google Blog Search:

    http://blogsearch.google.com/

Nope not there. Google says to be listed this has to happen:

If your blog publishes a site feed in any format and automatically pings an updating service (such as Weblogs.com), we should be able to find and list it

Next, I did a search on verifying pings in the forum. It was suggested I use

    http://www.redalt.com/External/pingomation.php

to test to see if my pinging was working.

I used, but got the following result:

Blog URL "" was last updated at Wed, 31 Dec 1969 18:59:59 -0500

Goodness, my website wasn't even on the net in 1969 and I started using WordPress only a month or so. So I'm wondering if I'm using the above tool correctly.

I'm also wondering if the pinging service is working correctly in WordPress.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    thanks
    steve

What do you have listed in the Update Services box at Options/Writing?

Technorati is receiving your update pings, so it must be working properly.

    http://www.technorati.com/search/Men’s+Killer+Dating+Mistake

And, it looks like I also get the same 1969 date when I check my blog with Ping-o-Mation.

If you are still concerned, suggest that your feed be added to http://www.syndic8.com/ . They should accept it within two days, and you should then be able to search for your feed by name. Once you find you're feed's listing, bookmark it, and use it to confirm pings by checking the "Pinged:" field five to fifteen minutes after you publish a post.

Owen, don't panic. Just calm down. If you want to use Syndic8 to verify your pings, you need to:

Suggest that your feed be added to http://www.syndic8.com/ . They should accept it within two days, and you should then be able to search for your feed by name. Once you find you're feed's listing, bookmark it, and use it to confirm pings by checking the "Pinged:" field five to fifteen minutes after you publish a post.

As for "all those error messages with the [Ping-o-Mation] stuff", they're the same errors that we all see. Again, please don't panic. Re-read the entire thread word-for-word, and just calm down.

Thanks, sorry if I seemed panic-y. Just learning this stuff. It's fun but scary a little. All that pinging and trackbacking and feeding and all. Thanks
