I'm new to WordPress and am still learning the ins and outs of it, but ever since installing 3.1 on my dedicated server, I've been having lots of problems with mysql slowing down and crashing/stopping. Sometimes this happens while I'm poking about in the admin area, but it seems to happen most often when just viewing the site.
According to the minimum requirements (http://wordpress.org/about/requirements/) my server should be good as I have MySQL 4.1.20 and PHP 5.0.4.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Seems like your dedi server is not reliable; or their mysql is old and buggy and not reliable
Did all installs of php and mysql go perfectly?

I did not perform the installs of php and mysql as they were preinstalled. The server has been running quite stable for a long time and has had other php/sql applications running on it reliably (including a commerce site with a very large database), though I do admit it is getting a bit aged now.
However, in the course of my testing I did try an older version of WordPress, 1.5ish, and it seemed to work perfectly fine. I'd really like to use 3.x for the obvious reasons. With v3.05 I had the same issues.
yes it should work based on requirements

In less exciting news, we are also going to be dropping support for MySQL 4 after WordPress 3.1. Fewer than 6 percent of WordPress users are running MySQL 4. The new required MySQL version for WordPress 3.2 will be 5.0.15.

Well, I'm looking into upgrading MySQL hoping that it will do the trick. It's good to know about the announcement. Thanks.
