Using wordpress to host church sermons (9 posts)

I've been asked to set up a blog for a church that will also serve as a place to download sermon files. These are MP3 files and are large (up to 30MB). I'd like to find some combination of plugins that allowed the files to be downloaded and then links created to them on a page all by using menus. The people I'm doing this for are not really html literate so the system needs to be simple to use. Yes, I know that WordPress is not the best tool for this, but it's the only one I know and I don't have time to learn Joomla or something. Anyone got any good ideas?

I too have done this, but I used Blogger (before I saw the WP light!). I convert the AIFF files into mono .M4A fornat using iTunes and registered with the iTunes store to serve them as Podcasts. Each 30 minute (or so) sermon is about 10MB. The main church site is at http://sierravistacc.com with a link to the podcasts. I bet you can do the same thing with WordPress!

I am doing exactly this at my pastor's website, at http://www.timelessword.com. WordPress is perfect for the job, and I would be happy to answer any questions you have about it. We are doing both text and MP3s. We have someone who is getting the 45min sermons down to about 10MB each and with excellent quality. I can get more details if you are interested.

I know this string is old, but...

I have just released a new plugin called wpSermons which allows you to upload mp3 sermons and have them displayed on your church website much like the last link above.

Panglea - I've just tried your plugin and can't get it to work - where is the best place to ask about it?! Thanks for the link - I like the look of it...

Sorry to everyone else for stealing the thread.

I currently have over a years worth of files online, and want to migrate to wordpress.

There have been several links mentioned in this thrread, would you all mind expanding on what method you used to incorporate the audio files?

Makemead, I noticed you had 2 methods, what plugins were used?

Kalico, looks like you use podpress. Is it difficult to set up?

    Thanks!

The church decided to go with the pastor's son as web designer so my links above don't work anymore but they files are still hosted in the same place and you can view them below:

greenpeas, the list of recent sermons is controlled by a modified version of Customizable Post Listings plugin by Scott Reilly. The flash based mp3 player is Audio Player by Martin Laine.
