Using WordPress for digital archives and repositories (3 posts)

    Hi folks,

I reviewed a premium theme recently that I thought had the potential to open WordPress up to become a fully functional digital archive - and I'm thinking along the lines of a library or museum archive or special collection.

I wanted to ask first of all whether anyone here has experience in this field and if so what sort of theme solutions they've used to build their archive. The theme in my review is a very solid option, but given the mass of themes released every day, I'm sure there are others.

And one other thing, if you do dabble in the online archive field, but you use other Open Source software to power it, I'd be very grateful if you could post references here.

    Many thanks indeed.

    Will.

    Hi
I am interested int he same issue and considered Omeka, that is very meant for museums, but has much less plugins, featrues and communiies than WordPress
Ive asked for comaparisons and opinions here:
    - http://www.linkedin.com/groupItem?view=&gid=154024&type=member&item=81742937&qid=3b8e76aa-731f-4e3a-8c3f-cfed7ee0598b&goback=.gmp_154024

The best resource I ve found so far on using WP as a digital library is this:
    http://osliving.com/sourced/wordpress/the-bookclub-wordpress-theme-a-new-solution-for-digital-archives-and-repositories/

But even if you tweak WordPress to provide an interface to browse a digital archive, I still wonder:
    - w<ill you get the same import facilities as a specialized system like Omeka, to handle many documents?
    - Will you handle so many formats?

    Any idea and feedback welcome!
    Agnes
