   Hey,

   I am looking to set up a simple web site for my wedding to provide guests with information, collect RSVPs, and showcase some photographs from my photographer both pre and post wedding.

   I know next to nothing about building a web site and the simplicity of using WordPress appeals to me, but I don't want to create a blog.

   Can I use WordPress to create a 6 or so page web site without having a blog?!

   sure
   you can use the "static front page" option
   then create only pages
   wordpress is widely used as a CMS
