I have seen websites created using wordpress. I downloaded 2.5 to my web host and have been hunting through the codex for any info on having my blog function as a website. I am not finding anything.
Can someone point me in the right direction. Either via the codex or a tutorial or anything?

did you follow these instructions on installing WordPress?
At what part are you stuck? You'll need to be more specific in order for people to help you......

When WordPress is used to manage a web page it is called a "Content Managing System", or a CMS. Some links on the codex and elsewhere are

It is actually not that difficult to set up. Good Luck!

Best thing is to pick a theme that is set up like a website and learn from that.

As I said in my post, I already downloaded wordpress successfully. Sorry you didn't understand this.

Actually, you are not writing clearly. Its not understanding that were lacking, its your writing thats lacking.

Once installed, you have a website. A site with a blog on it IS a web site. A site with a single image on it, IS a web site.
In the future, be more clear, and we can all avoid being confused.
