Using WordPress as a CMS, a couple questions (2 posts)

    Hello,

I am in the process of converting my site to use wordpress as a sort of cms in the backend. I've attempted to read up on using wordpress as a CMS but I haven't had too much luck answering my questions.

    1. I would like the front page to essentially be typically blog-ish. I would use posts to announce new material and use it to post upcoming events and the like. A mockup of what I am talking about can be seen here.

    2. #1 isn't really a question as I am fairly certain how to do that. However I am uncertain of how to handle articles (for example ). At the moment I assume that I should set up templates for each category: art, photo, writing and then post each article as a page. My main concern here is that I am uncertain how I will be able to list the pages by category. For example, currently I have a separate page that links to all the pages in that category, is it possible to, I guess, create a 'page' that lists other 'pages'? If not, does anyone have any ideas as how to get the same effect?

    1. No problem. That would be either finding a theme that does that (displays just the post title and author) or modify your theme's index.php.

    2. Pages are not categorized. Install WordPress in a test bed on your local machine, then write a few Pages, create a few categories, assign those categories to a couple of posts, and assign a few tags to posts, then play around.
