   Hi, I wanted to know that can we use special characters such as £ by holding alt and typing 0163. I want to make the password extremely secure.

   That ought to work, try it on a secondary non-admin account first to test.

   Rather than do that why not just use lengthy mnemonic based pass phrases with upper/lower/number/special characters?

   http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_generate_password implies it does, but yeah, test :)
