   I am trying to send my emails using smtp, but I get an error after submitting the form that says SMTP Error: Could not authenticate. I do get the pop up that says the message was successful, but the email never shows up and there is that error in the top left of the screen.

   I have input all the information under the general settings section using the following information:

   SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com
   SMTP Port: 465
   Encryption: SSL

   I also have it set to use SMTP Username/Password with the correct login information provided. What am I doing wrong?

   Thanks for any suggestions

   I would try to test those email settings using another program. There isn't much I can do.

   ... I have a similar problem. The message comes up with a success message and saves in the DashBoard, but no email is sent. I even tried downloading an SMTP config plugin... This is a real kinda "deal breaker" as to whether one can use this plugin or not... a great pity because otherwise its pretty awesome.

   ma.nilla, are you also using google apps?
   tlovett1... please help!

   Seems like this plugin does not use the wp_mail() function or...?

   I have my own mailserver at my hosting company

   Installed SMTP plugin
   http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/smtp/faq/
   Set all parameters and testmail works fine.

   The SMTP plugin states in its FAQ:
   
   "I have a plugin that sends out emails but doesn't use SMTP. Why?"
   "Said plugin has to use the WordPress default wp_mail() function when sending emails in order for SMTP to work."

   So what does the Contact Form use if not the wp_mail() function?

   ...sorry. Found the settings in the plugin.
