    Hi there
I’m trying to use the schedule widget rather than the countdown timer on the home page to display the next game for each team. So I’ve set each widget to display only one game, but it doesn’t seem to display the last posted for the team (which would be the next game). How does the widget calculate which item to show?

    Thanks

    Hi NFWRo,
How exactly did you set the widget to show only one game?

    Hi Mark
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
I simply made the Maximum Number of Games to Show = 1.

    Ro,
I just changed the Maximum number of games to show to 1 on http://shoalsummitsolutions.com/dev/schedule-test/ Looks like it’s working on my dev site. Take a look. ???

    Hi Mark
So it is designed to show the last entry made for that schedule if I only have 1 set? I’ve left the dates as default so that it works on any date range – is that correct?

    Thanks

No, it shouldn’t matter if you have only one game in the schedule or not. The query is intended to return (and therefore show) only the number of games you specify. I have not tested it with a one game schedule though, so I guess there could be a boundary condition I failed to handle there. Do you have a page I could look at?

    Hi Mark – yes it’s here http://eastwoodhaycc.co.uk/

Both the U9 and U11 teams have two games set, the U11 a 19th May and a 3rd June and the U9 a 19th May and 2 Jun.

I don’t know if it’s all relevant but one interesting thing is the way my client has entered them. In the Games list in the admin area, the U11 games display the June entry first and the May entry second, but the U9 games are listed with 19th May first and 2nd June second. In both cases it’s the 19th May one that is visible on the Home page.

I suppose more sensible use here would be the countdown widget, but I don’t think they want 7 countdowns going on on the Home page, just the date and place of the fixture.

    Thanks for you help

    Hi Ro,
I’m getting a bit lost here. At this point, I’m really not sure if it’s working correctly or not. Could you please tell me what the widget settings are the fixtures listed on the home page? And at least one or two of the actual schedules? That will help me figure it out. At least we’ll be on the same sheet of music.
    Thanks.

    Hi Mark
I asked the client to add some more data to test it out properly which she has now done.

As it is displayed on the home page now the Under 17, Sunday XI and Wednesday XI display correctly – no data for the first and only one game set up for the other two.

However, the U9, U11, U13 and SatXI are all displaying the earliest entry rather than the last.

    Thanks

    Ro-
What do you mean by the “earliest entry” versus the “last (entry)”? Do you mean that the FIRST entry you make in the admin page is displayed regardless of the actual game date? If you only set it to show one game without a date range, it should show the game on the EARLIEST date, not the latest date, regardless of when it was entered.

Again, assuming you are using the schedule widget, I really need to know (a) the game dates/times and (b) the exact settings of the widget (for a case where you think things are messed up). Could be an simple DB query/sort error but I’m not seeing it with my data, so I can’t fix what I can’t see.

    Thanks,
    -Mark

(Just a thought … are you sure the games are all assigned the correct schedule ID?)

    Hi Mark

Aha, I think you’ve have answered the question, they are showing the first chronological date not the last (the games have not been set up in any order), but given that they are trying to use it to display the next game, that isn’t going to work.

For the teams that have multiple games set up we have:
Under 9 – 23 June is the next game date but it’s displaying 19 May which is the earliest entry.
Under 11 18 June next game but displaying 19 May – again the earliest entry date
Under 13 24 June next game but displaying 5 May – earliest entry.

The widget is set up with Title and Schedule ID (I’m sure they’re correct), the Display Start and End Dates left as default and the Maximum # of games to show set to 1.

Can I do something with the dates to make it show the next date or is this not possible with this widget.

As I say, I’m guessing that the Countdown widget is the one that’s actually going to display the correct game, but they don’t want a countdown.

Thanks – sorry to be a pain.

    Right.

So what should work is to keep the number of games at 1 and set the dates to start after the last game. Then you will have to update the dates after each game to show the next one, which you don’t have to do with the countdown timer. Let me know how that works.

What I can do (in the next release) is add an option to the CDT to only display the next game and date as in a table similar to what you have. That would be a nice feature.

    Hi Mark
Excellent. That gives them a choice to use the workaround or the CDT widget – thank you so much. I think the option to not have the timer would be a great addition, I’ve passed the potential for it on to them.

I recognise your willingness to look at adding images in some way and to add this option to the widget together with the time you’ve spent as truly fantastic support and I’ve passed that on to the users as well 🙂

    Thanks again for your help.

Thank you Ro. Appreciate the positive review. I will leave the thread open for a bit. Please let me know if the work around really works.
