Using existing templates

    I want to design my own themes, but in the meantime to get me started, can I use one of the many free themes I find as my own?

    Can I modify the images and design a website for a customer which I will be paid for?

    From my understanding under certain licenses you are allowed to alter theme as you desire and use it, unless you’re getting paid for it. So I would say no you can’t get paid for what you are doing unless you create your own theme.
