I use the default search results page — the one that comes from search template — and I’d like to continue using it with this plugin, but it doesn’t seem like an option. Is there one?

I’m afraid not, at least not out of the box. The search results page works on a totally separate bit of logic/ templates – sorry!

Potentially looking at releasing this functionality in 2.0
