• I’ve enabled the feature that lets you use custom permalinks in wp.

    I chose mywebsite.co.uk/%year%/%postname%/

Now, I’m trying to edit the permalink on the about us page.

    So I typed in mywebsite.co.uk/2011/about-us/

but it saved as mywebsite.co.uk/2011about-us/ and when you click ‘about us’ on the home page it says

    Not Found

The requested URL /2011about-us/ was not found on this server.

Can anyone explain why this is happenning and what I should change?

  • Why are you trying to edit the permalink of a page? That should work out of the box when you edit the permalink settings. I’m not 100% sure, but pages only get the pagename with most permalinks, so the result of your /%year%/%postname%/ for the about page would be website/about by default. A post with the same title would be website/2011/about.

The problem is, the permalink didn’t work out of the box.

Apart from the homepage, after choosing the option to customize my permalinks no other pages are working. Clicking on the different pages on the site, apart from the home, just lead to the message ‘page cannot be found’.

Thats why i thought maybe I should edit the permalinks of the pages.

I’m going to try to creta new pages and see if they work….

Any page I create now, the permalink which is generated is not working.

    How can I fix this?

Are you getting a message on the Permalinks page telling you to update your .htaccess file?

    yes i am,
but I already did that once,

    should I do it again??

If you’re still getting the message, then it’s not recognizing the .htaccess file. You need to upload that to the root again, and see if that works. Should be CHMOD 644 (the usual permissions) and if that doesn’t work, it may be that your hosting provider is not allowing you to use mod_rewrite.

permissions are correct, I’ve contacted my hosting provider with the problem.

hopefully I can resolve this soon,

    thanks

    Perhaps mod_rewrite isn’t turned on.
