[resolved] Using custom field in WP to Twitter (5 posts)

Hey guys. First of all: "Types" is GREAT Plugin!! I had to fight WP with no PHP knowledge for hours until I found your plugin that did the trick in seconds.

However, besides "Types" I am using the "WP to Twitter" Plugin which allows me to includ custom fields in the tweet publishing process. Unfortunately the custo fields created with your plugin doesn't seem to be recognized while "native" WP custom fields do get recognized (and therefore included in the tweets). Is there anything I can do to "register" the new custom fields somehow, so that other PLugins can refer to or use them?

    Thanks a lot!

I'm not the developer of Types, but I am the developer of WP to Twitter and am familiar with the creation of custom fields -- I'm pretty confident that Types uses standard custom fields that should be usable by WP to Twitter. (The plug-in description indicates that they use standard post meta fields; and those are standard custom fields.) However, identifying the *names* of those fields might be tricky; I don't know anything about how Types manages the custom fields, and that could make a difference.

Thanks for the reply! I'm gonna try again on a fresh WP instance today. The weird thing is that it works with any of the regular custom fields which I can create during editing a post/page, but not the ones created by the Types plugin. Regarding the identification the plugin gives a list with the names of all custom fields (here wpcf-mylink). I would assume this is the actual name...and I think I don't have any typos going on here.

(But hey, Your plugin rocks, too, btw! ;) )

Okay I found the "bug" which obviously is caused by me ;)
When I update an existing post the custom_field gets passed along to the tweet. Which apparently means I have to somehow *save* the custom_field's content before I update/publish the post...

I'm gonna donate now or even consider buying the WP to Twitter Plugin.

Ah - that's probably a timing thing. The Types plug-in is probably saving it's custom meta at a point in the process that's later than when WP to Twitter sends the Tweet. You can get around that fairly easily by saving the post as a draft before publishing or by scheduling the post for any time in the future.
