Using 301 Redirect (1 post)

    Hi there,

About a year ago I made a site before I really understood that page URLs can be very useful in SEO. Now many page URLs I have are also long and not great.
The thing is I also have many other smaller sites that have links to these long, URL pages.

Having discovered 301 Redirect on Yoast I was wondering...

To use 301 Redirect I guess I create a new page with the shortened SEO friendly URL and redirect my old page to this. Tried on just one page and all works great.

Am I right in thinking I will then noindex the old page with the long URL so it stops being searched?
I guess also I will always have to keep the old page as this has the original link and the 301 Redirect?

If this is the case I'll have loads of pages that have 301 Redirect active and wonder if this is really worth the bother :)

Any thoughts on this would be great :)
