• Hi!

I have recently being receiving daily a lot of subscriptions of new users to my blog (www.tradingconsistemas.com).

That would be a great news if it not where becaucause visits have not increased and all the subscriptions are coming from the same domain *.pl.

I suspect I’m having some type of virus or hack or whatever…

Any clues on which way to go?

    Thx in advance

    Horacio

    Any clues on this?

    Thx….

I have the same think happening. .pl is Poland…. I can’t think of any reason why Polish people would be registering for my site, which is local.

I deleted everything with .pl and they came back.

I think it’s some sort of spam or attack that hasn’t happened yet.

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one.

I can’t figure out what is the drawback on this. After all, I would love to have thousands of registered users… ¿?

Anyway, it’s strange. Very strange. Mainly because the registering process is not as straight forward or simple as the “subscribe” process. I’m about to delete the option altogether.

I’m getting the same thing and, without discounting the interest in impulse control for an entire country, I’m worried that the .pl heavy membership with zero US.

I’m going to delete everything through February that shows no login activity. If you all find something out, a better way to think about this or clean house OR security I should know more about, please post here.

    Thanks, Lizabeth

It’s just spam. The solution is to turn off letting anyone register as a user. And to use Akismet.

If you do allow registration, this plugin is supposed to be able to block via email domains. So you should be able to block any emails that contain .pl

Thanks MickeyRoush! Also, I found StopForumSpam.com and was able to cross check the existing IP addresses against a reported spammers list. Free and useful. There’s even a page where you can read letters from irate spammers demanding to be taken off their public rolls; makes for some pretty funny reading.

Anyway, thanks for the info! Good luck and stay clean 🙂

I am using Akismet and have the same problem. I would not like to block people from Poland completely … 😉 And if I turn of letting anyone register as a user, people cannot subscribe to the blog any more, right? If someone finds out a better solution, I would be grateul to know! Thank you!

    @natascham,
Please start your own topic instead of posting on an old thread.

Thank you Krishna … 🙂 I believe I found a solution. My subscribers are in the Jetpack Stats list and not in the subscriber list. So i turned off the subscriptions as posted here by WPyogi before. I will start a new topic if this does not solve the problem.
