Users cannot post comments on the home page (11 posts)

I have taken over the management of a WordPress website and am having some troubles customising it.

The theme used is 'ProPhoto3'. Most of the site is working ok, however I'm having two major issues:

    1. Users are unable to post comments directly on posts appearing on the home page (which shows all posts).

    2. I'd like the comments section expanded on each post by default (either all comments, or preferably just the latest five comments and the ability to expand further).

The first point is most important as I cannot figure out how to simply display the comment form there.

If it's relevant, the home page is not an actual WordPress 'page'; it's just the default home page (i.e. showing all posts) that comes with the ProPhoto3 theme. I can post the code if necessary.

ProPhoto3 is a premium/paid theme with its own support forums, and they should be able to give you expert help there.

Thanks, but unfortunately their forums aren't open for new topics at present, and as I didn't purchase the theme (and neither did the client), I'm not able to get much help from them.

Perhaps your client should consider buying the theme?

Just to be clear, the previous developer purchased the theme (i.e. it's not an illegal copy). I doubt the client would want to pay for it again, but I don't think they are on good terms at the moment so I'm stuck in a middle to some degree.

Then your client should have access to the theme's dedicated forum.

I'm not sure if you're misunderstanding me, but the client does not have any details about the theme - who exactly purchased it, login details, or anything. The previous developer set up the website, purchased the theme and gave the client the site. Now I'm fixing a few bits and pieces on it for the client. They've forwarded every email they received from the developer but there is nothing about the theme.

Further, the forums you're referring to are currently closed to new posts therefore I can't submit any support requests that way. I've contacted the theme creator via Twitter though it's difficult to have a proper conversation when you're limited to so few characters, and replies take a long time to receive.

Not being a WordPress expert, I just assumed that the method of having a comment form appear on any WordPress site would be independent of the theme, i.e. insert a particular line of code somewhere in the index.php template for that theme and voila.

The problem we have is that, because it's a commercial theme, we cannot access it's code. Therefore, there is little - if anything - we can do to help.

Nope. The listing of comment and the comment form implementation is totally theme-dependant.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I'll persist with Twitter I guess.
