Hi
After upgrading to WP 3.2.1, when i try to add a new user, i can no longer create a user of the format x.surname ... all of my other users (created prior to the upgrade) follow this format. I get an error saying only (a-z) may be used.
Is there a way to enable this again?
Thanks
Joe.

Though keep in mind, if you allow open registration WITH blog creation, you don't want this, as it may cause people to create blog names with invalid URLs and thus kill your site.

It is a school blog, so registration is closed and controlled by me. I create users for teachers and children and that is all. Would this be sufficient for that purpose and not break anything? Was this change introduced in 3.2?
It was a bug that was fixed, yes. :D

I didn't consider it a bug... It was quite a nice feature to have initial.surname users in a way similar to our school email addresses... made everything easier to remember...
It was inconsistent. If a user registers, they can only use [a-z] and [1-0] in their ID, however an ADMIN could use anything. So that was a bug :) Or a mistake. Anyway, use the plugin I pointed you to, and you can circumvent it.
