One of our blog subscribers reported an Amazon link where we have none. We do have several Amazon links on our site, I use the showcase and amazonify plug-ins, but this link is embedded in a post where we have no link. I know, I checked the code. Also, although I like Pink Floyd, I wouldn’t be linking to this product in this blog. The link the user reported uses our tracking code, too. What do you think is going on? Virus? Browser plug-in that creatively makes Amazon links wherever you are?

What’s the URL of the page in question? Can’t tell you if I see a link or not without looking at it.

The user reports a link for the words “friends and foes” in the last sentence, 2nd paragraph.

You’re using the Amazon Context Links script (cls.js). That script will scan your page for phrases and such and convert them into Amazon links on-the-fly. However, it’s not wholly consistent. Some users will see links that other users don’t see. Amazon bases these links on their own weird matching algorithms. I’ve seen some strange links on my own site too, sometimes.

Nothing you can do about it except remove the context links code.

ahhhhh. It was an optional setting in Amazonify 0.8. I didn’t know what I was activating!

    (awesome plugin, though!)

Muchas gracias, Otto, you’re a dear.
